Angry Robot is Sold

The Bookseller reports that Osprey has sold off Watkins, Nourish, and SF imprint Angry Robot.

The sale price for the three imprints has not been disclosed, but all staff will keep their jobs at sci-fi imprint Angry Robot, mind, body and spirit publisher Watkins and wellbeing cookbook arm Nourish following the sale.

However, some downsizing has already occurred:

Angry Robot closed two of its imprints, Exhibit A and Strange Chemistry, with immediate effect in June following [a] strategic review.

Amazon, Perseus reach a Deal on Ebook Pricing.

Publishers Weekly reports that Amazon and Perseus have reached a deal on ebook pricing.

According to several sources, the Perseus Books Group has completed negotiations over new e-book terms with Amazon. The agreement covers not only Perseus’ own imprints, but the more than 400 independent publishers that use the company’s Constellation service for e-book distribution.

Authors United to Appeal to the Department of Justice

Publishers Weekly reports that Authors United will send a letter to the DOJ asking that it look into Amazon's business practices. This is the third prong in AU's action against the major retailer, the first being an an ad in The New York Times, and the second a letter sent to Amazon's board members. So far Amazon has not shifted.

Something New Coming From Amazon

After rumblings surfaced that Amazon is creating a new American Idol-style crowdsourced publishing platform, the e-tailer has confirmed that the program is "in the works."
