Gollancz Goes Ebook

SF publisher Gallancz announces it will be making the backlist of many of its authors available through a site called The Gateway. "Authors featured in the launch include such names as Marion Zimmer Bradley, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, Frank Herbert, Alice B. Sheldon (James Tiptree, Jr), Robert Silverberg, Kate Wilhelm and Connie Willis."

The End Of Borders

It s been a long time coming, and one can hardly say it is a surprise. The Wall Street Journal comments on the end of a business as seen from where it all began: Ann Arbor. The Bookseller discusses how the liquidation well proceed.

"Borders Is Dead..."

says The Wall Street Journal. Liquidation may begin as soon as Friday. The company's press release said, in part: “For decades, Borders stores have been destinations within our communities, places where people have sought knowledge, entertainment, and enlightenment and connected with others who share their passion. Everyone at Borders has helped millions of people discover new books, music, and movies, and we all take pride in the role Borders has played in our customers’ lives,” Edwards continued, “I extend a heartfelt thanks to all of our dedicated employees and our loyal customers.”

Which is to say, fearing liquidation, they have caused the next bid, which is for liquidation to become the top bid. But anything can happen and probably will as the time for the court-supervised auction, July 19th, approaches.

Amazon and Worldwide E-Sales

If you live in the US or the UK, you might not be aware that Amazon's e-book pricing is not uniform worldwide. Here's an article about one blogger complaining this is hard for authors. Basically, added charges can double and triple the cost for lower end e-books that authors are using to entice new readers.
