Author Terry Pratchett, famous for his Discworld series, has a rare form of early onset Alzheimer's. He has donated one million dollars for research on the disease, a growing plague as the population ages. It had been hoped that his disease would progress slowly enough that he might write more books. He continues to write, but has begun to see loss of his motor skills, and no longer drives or types. In an interview he mentions that he must pay for his own Aricept, since he is, by NHS standards, too young to receive it free.
