The Green Man Review is doing a special issue on Peter Beagle, he of The Last Unicorm, a Fine and Private Place, and I See by My Outfit fame. Since he's written a number of other fine books it is, in a way, curious that three early works define him to so many readers. There is much more to Peter Beagle. However, there is an audio file of Beagle reading from The Last Unicorn, and if you've wondered exactly how you say "Schmendrick," that, and other questions, will be answered. Beagle is a fine reader with a variety of voices for his characters. For a taste of Peter Beagle in another mood, try "Gordon, the Self-Made Cat," available from Amazon Shorts. His latest collection, The Line Between, from Tachyon Publications, contains a coda to The Last Unicorn, "Two Hearts," so things have come full circle, but not back to the same place, for he is older and so are we.
