The Art of Ray Harryhausen has just been published. It is celebration of the eighty-five year-old stop motion animator's place in the history of film, with an an introduction by Peter Jackson, who remade King Kong—a project he is reported to have loved even more than The Lord of the Rings—and the movie that inspired Harryhausen's career. Before CGI, Harryhausen's work was the gold standard in special effects, and even now stop motion is preferred for many applications, because of the fine detail and control possible. One fan has listed all the creatures Harryhausen worked on, with short clips of them in action, added links, and an interview: Harryhausen Creatures.
